Hurricanes Defeat Storm in Another Comeback Win

Halifax, (NS) – The Halifax Hurricanes Basketball Club were in action January 7th at the Scotiabank Centre against the Island Storm. The Hurricanes defeated the Storm 100-95 at home, to make it 5 consecutive wins. The Hurricanes now have a record of 6-1, maintaining the #1 spot in the Atlantic Division and in the league.
Hurricanes led the Island Storm 32-20 after the first quarter, and at Halftime the score was
52-48 in favor of the Hurricanes. The Storm continued their run in the third quarter, gaining their first lead of the game and outscoring the Hurricanes 28-22 in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the Hurricanes outscored the Storm 26-19, on route to a 100-95 victory.
Forwards, Mike Glover and Kyle Hunt led the Hurricanes in points scored with 19 each. Guard, Joseph Bertrand scored 17 points and added 8 rebounds. Guard, Justin Johnson scored 14 points and making 7/8 free throws. Forward, Anthony Criswell added 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Guard, Shane Gibson scored 10 points.
Guard, Lovell Cook led the Storm with 19 points. Forward, Mike Martin scored 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Center, Nick Evans scored 13 points and added 10 rebounds. Guard, Rashad Whack scored 11 points.
Justin Johnson was clutch again in the victory, hitting 2 free throws in the last minute and scoring a layup to give Halifax the lead with 30 seconds remaining in the game.
When asked about how the season was going thus far, Johnson said, “The last six games have been a grind, a lot of fight and a lot of comeback wins, they haven’t really been easy wins but a win is a win, we just keep fighting.” Johnson was named NBL Canada Player of the Week last week, he said, “I just want to use my experience as a ball handler, attacking the paint when I can, and when the game is on the line I have to be more aggressive by going to the basket, because if I don’t make the shot I’ll probably get fouled and I know I’m a good free throw shooter.”
Halifax Hurricanes face the Saint John Mill Rats next Wednesday, January 13th, at the Scotiabank Centre.
