Having fallen just short of the title a few months ago, the San Antonio Spurs will enter the 2026-27 season with no other objective than to crown themselves NBA champions. And although there are still many weeks before that journey begins, the Texans are more focused on basketball than on their vacations, to the point that many of them have traveled to Paris to train together and continue growing as a unit.
Thus stated by R.C. Buford, the chief executive of the San Antonio Spurs, while highlighting the leadership role of Victor Wembanyama, the driving force behind the initiative.
“Telling his teammates to go spend a week with him is a display of leadership,” he said. “Great leaders rarely want to resemble someone else, and he doesn’t want to resemble anyone; he just wants to be himself. He sets an outstanding example with the way he takes care of his body and connects with his family and his teammates. It isn’t very common to see ten players travel halfway around the world to train together. That’s something born from the respect, admiration and joy that Victor creates around him.”
Buford did not specify which teammates have traveled to France with the center, though one can imagine that it is the core nucleus of the roster. It is known, however, that one of them is Dylan Harper, who attended the NBA Summer House with Wemby at the Paris Stock Exchange Palace.

For now, Wembanyama’s summer has included private sessions with Hakeem Olajuwon, as well as other group sessions with his teammates such as the one recently organized by De’Aaron Fox. The Frenchman appears more focused than ever on using these off-season months to continue growing and developing his game, and in San Antonio they are excited to see what new version is taking shape for the upcoming season.
“We all see how incredible he is as a person, and we have to support him in a way that allows him to grow,” Buford adds. “What I love about Victor is how authentic he is and the way he influences his teammates and his relationships with Mitch Johnson and Brian Wright. The night he signed his extension he was with his family, he wanted to do it at his grandfather’s house and without a lot of pomp. He is proud indeed, and we are thrilled to share this experience with him.”
