Minnesota Also Changes Ownership

August 21, 2026

The businessman Marc Stad has reached an agreement to become the controlling shareholder of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx for $4.5 billion, according to Shams Charania.

Stad, a partner and founder of the Dragoneer Investment Group, had until now been a minority investor in the Minneapolis franchise.

Nevertheless, he has chosen to assume full control of the franchise following the deal reached with Marc Lore and his partner Alex Rodriguez after months of intense negotiations.

His wife, Elisa Stad, will become the new Governor of the T-Wolves, and the aforementioned Rodriguez will remain a co-owner alongside him.

After the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers, this marks the fourth-largest amount ever paid for an NBA team.

  • $12.5 billion for the Lakers (2026)
  • $10.0 billion for the Lakers (2025)
  • $6.1 billion for the Celtics (2025)
  • $4.5 billion for the Timberwolves and Lynx (2026)
