It seems John Konchar won’t spend long as a free agent. According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Miami Heat are strong contenders to sign the veteran swingman, who was recently waived by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The truth is that Florida’s franchise has shown interest before. Before the trade deadline last February they had already sought to bring him on board, but at that time the Memphis Grizzlies opted to send him to the Utah Jazz as part of the deal for Jaren Jackson Jr.
When it comes to signing Konchar, Miami has the necessary space both on the roster and on the books, since they have an open slot and sit roughly $2.5 million under the cap, allowing them to sign a player for the veteran minimum.
Undoubtedly, it has been a busy summer for the Heat. To start, they completed a trade to acquire the services of Giannis Antetokounmpo, followed by other moves such as the arrivals of Klay Thompson and Nick Richards.
The only question with Konchar, a 30-year-old, is his inconsistent three-point shooting, which stood at 28.3 percent in the 2025-26 season, though over his career he has a 34.9 percent mark. Miami needs to surround Giannis and Bam Adebayo with shooters. Does Konchar meet that requirement?
