Jonathan Kuminga officially wears the Timberwolves colors as he joins the franchise. The forward, who signed a two-year, $13 million deal with Minnesota a few weeks ago, has been introduced by his new team and faced questions from the press; one of those questions asked what motivated his decision. In answering, the former Hawks forward hinted at the importance of the human factor in the choice.
“I felt that they truly wanted me, that they were genuine people with whom you could sit down and have a real conversation,” he admitted. “I think that’s when I started to feel that connection.”
The forward’s praise went to the entire organization, but during his remarks he made a point of highlighting Anthony Edwards’s role in his decision. Kuminga noted how Edwards showed himself to be very approachable and interested in his situation from the start, which reinforced his feelings about the franchise and helped him lean toward committing.
“Ant, above all, was calling me all the time. He wanted to see how I was doing, and he did so with sincerity. He didn’t have to do it, but that shows how much he wanted me to come here.”
To conclude, Jonathan expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, pointing to the strong core they have and saying he expects to add a lot with his experience and attitude: “I know what it takes to win, and I think with these players we have a chance to go far. Adding my mindset to everything they already have can help us do a great job.”
