The last soldier in Tom Thibodeau’s ranks has fallen.
Taj Gibson has announced his retirement from basketball at the age of 41.
Most recently he had been released after being waived by the New Orleans Pelicans, a move stemming from a trade that sent him from the Memphis Grizzlies.
But Gibson will remain connected to basketball, and to the NBA in particular, as, according to HoopsHype.com, he will serve as an assistant to coach Tiago Splitter with the Chicago Bulls.
It is worth noting that he was selected in the first round of the 2009 Draft by the Windy City franchise with the 26th pick of the first round.
With the Bulls he spent eight seasons, later suiting up for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets, and the aforementioned Grizzlies.
In total, he appeared in 1,012 official games with career NBA averages of 8.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and one block in 22.9 minutes per game.
