The introductory press conference for the Los Angeles Lakers season yielded plenty to discuss. While Rob Pelinka carried the bulk of the market analysis, the departure of LeBron James and the approach to the season were prominent topics, and J.J. Redick did not stay silent, launching what could be read as a small indirect jab at The King by underscoring how well the roster looks as they head into the 2026-27 NBA season.
“I think, with this group, it’s probably the first time in my three years here that I feel the pieces actually fit together,” he emphasizes.
Nor should Redick’s words be taken too seriously. The coach already publicly backed James shortly after he announced his departure during the live broadcast of “Mind the Game” with Tyrese Haliburton.
Focusing on The King, the reality is that he has not yet provided details about his exit from Los Angeles. Fortunately, there won’t have to be a long wait, because in the new episode of “Mind the Game” (due to be released today) LeBron talks with Steve Nash, and in the promotional video one can hear him asking: “How did you end up in Philadelphia? What prompted you to say: ‘that is my destiny’?”.
He won’t be the only time he speaks, either, as the four-time champion will also address reporters when the Sixers host their annual media day on Monday in Camden, New Jersey.
