The New York Knicks continue their characteristic tug-of-war with Karl-Anthony Towns.
According to sources close to journalist Jake Fischer, the Knicks would have offered him a four-year, $200 million extension, $76 million below the maximum permitted salary.
The Dominican, who will turn 31 in November, could become an unrestricted free agent next summer if he decides to decline his player option of $61 million for the 2027-28 season.
For the upcoming 2026-27 season, he will earn a guaranteed salary of $57 million, making him the highest-paid player on the Knickerbocker roster.
Towns averaged last season 20.1 points, 11.9 rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes per game.
