A historic moment for A’ja Wilson as she captured her fifth MVP award of the regular season, and the third consecutive one.
Wilson has become the first player in WNBA history to average 25 points, 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three.
This marks the second-highest scoring average in league history, surpassed only by her own record set two seasons ago (26.9 points per game).
Wilson received 65 of the 74 first-place votes and nine votes for second place.
- A’ja Wilson: 713 points

Wilson had already made history last season by winning the fourth MVP of her WNBA career, surpassing the legendary Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, and Lauren Jackson, who had won three apiece.
She also enters the annals of the greatest athletes of all time:
- Wayne Gretzky: 9 MVPs in the NHL.
- Barry Bonds: 7 MVPs in MLB.
- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: 6 MVPs in the NBA.
- Peyton Manning: 5 MVPs in the NFL.
She also joins two basketball legends, Bill Russell and Michael Jordan, both with five MVP awards in their careers.
«It’s incredible to be listed among those names», recognized Wilson.
«It is the royalty of basketball. But it’s also about the journey. I have to thank everyone. Simply for being part of this… It hasn’t been easy. But being on that list speaks for itself», she highlighted.
During the regular season Wilson has led in scoring (26.2 points), in blocks (1.9), in efficiency rating (32.4) and in win shares.
Despite missing the Basketball World Cup due to a back injury, she did participate in the closing stretch with the Aces to win seven consecutive games and finish at 31-13.
Except for her rookie year, she has qualified for the playoffs in every season of her career.
«As I’ve said before. Take her off Mount Rushmore. She is the Everest», said Becky Hammon.
«And now I’m taking her off the Everest. We simply have to take her to another planet. You can be a player with a lot of talent and ability, but you won’t win as much as she does or reach her level of greatness. She’s the most receptive player I’ve ever known. There’s a reason she comes back each year better than the last», she concluded.
