Jaden McDaniels Extends His Contract with Minnesota

October 20, 2026

The 2026-27 season could mark a turning point in Jaden McDaniels’ career. After several years of steady progression and a playoff run in which he demonstrated the ability to take on bigger responsibilities when the stars were unavailable, the exits of Randle and Reid are set to make him an even more central figure in the Timberwolves’ rotation. And as evidence that Minnesota trusts him to shoulder this role, he has earned recognition for his work in the form of an extension.

As announced in the early hours by Shams Charania, ESPN reporter, it was revealed that the forward has agreed to extend his tenure with the franchise for one more season in exchange for $40 million. In this way, considering that he still has three seasons remaining on the five-year, $131 million deal he signed in 2023, Minneapolis is tying him to the team through 2030, confirming him as a fundamental pillar of a project that, otherwise, remains in constant flux.

McDaniels comes off a season in which he averaged 14.8 points and 4.2 rebounds, numbers that are consistently accompanied by strong defensive work thanks to his athletic gifts. Yet, in the postseason he showed he was capable of delivering more, delivering an outstanding series against the Denver Nuggets in which he raised his production to 17.8 points and 6.8 rebounds, including standout performances such as the 32 points that wrapped up the series in Game 6.

This fuels optimism regarding his ability to continue growing even further in the upcoming season, in which he will face another challenge: the scarcity of players at the four position on the roster. McDaniels appears, alongside Jonathan Kuminga, to be tasked with covering that gap, pushing his defensive versatility one notch higher to sustain a team that has chosen to rely on nearly all of its weapons in the backcourt.
