The new Philadelphia 76ers project began with a notable win on the home floor of the reigning NBA champions.

The Nick Nurse-led squad spoiled the Knicks’ celebration by prevailing in a tight 106-100.

Tyrese Maxey was the man of the night, posting 28 points and 5 assists to spearhead his team’s attack.

Alongside him, rookies Jaylen Brown and LeBron James also shone. Particularly LeBron, who had to guard Karl-Anthony Towns amid Embiid’s foul trouble.

The King kept Towns at bay to reach halftime with the game still in the balance (58-54).

«Obviously Towns is a very dangerous player when you give him space. I wanted to be there the moment he received the ball. Not giving him any room… And Tyrese, who was alert to the transition defense, was able to anticipate and finish with that dunk. It was a key sequence that changed the game», LeBron acknowledged.

James began a historic season for him, the 24th of his NBA career, with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, a steal and a block to his name.

Jaylen Brown contributed 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, and the aforementioned Embiid closed the luxury quartet with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocks.
