Kingston Flemings Sanctioned for Assault on McGowens

November 2, 2026

The Atlanta Hawks will be without Kingston Flemings in their game tonight against Indiana. The NBA has suspended him for one game after his intentional elbow to Pelicans guard Bryce McGowens in the head during the 121-99 loss in New Orleans.

The incident occurred with just under three minutes to go, when the guard, in a moment of frustration, struck the Pelicans player as both were far from the ball and the action. The referees did not hesitate to eject him once they reviewed the play, but the league determined that a punishment heavier than leaving for the locker room three minutes early was warranted and will force him to miss an additional game.

Flemings will therefore have to take a night off in what has been a start to the season with ups and downs for him, in which he has combined very modest performances with others where he has shown his scoring abilities. In fact, his game against Miami, in which he totaled 23 points and 5 assists, is one of the best individual performances by a rookie so far this season, and it points the way for a promising young player who, nonetheless, will have to rein in his temper.
