When fortune seemed to be smiling on Ben Simmons’ career, nothing could be farther from the truth.
An untimely injury has prevented him from even making his debut this year with the Sacramento Kings, as he recently suffered a rupture of the Achilles tendon during training that will force him to miss the entire season, ESPN reports.
It should be noted that Simmons had once again earned the NBA’s trust after convincing the Kings that he deserved a spot in the league.
He was penciled in as the starting point guard for the season opener against the Los Angeles Clippers to share the backcourt with rookie Darius Acuff Jr.
“I’ve faced situations that have tested my mental, physical, and emotional level. And I’ve managed to overcome each of them. This injury is another chapter in my career, not the end of my story,” Simmons said.
“It’s never easy to be away from the sport I love, especially after all I’ve had to endure to come back here. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that adversity doesn’t define you. What defines you is how you respond to it,” he added.
After nearly two years away from the courts, Simmons has managed to return to the boards once again. Will it be the end of his professional NBA career?
Everything points to the Kings potentially releasing him soon, as he agreed to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract.
