The Los Angeles Clippers have made their decision. The Californians, who entered with 16 players on their roster, needed to move one of them before the regular season began, and, as announced by Shams Charania, ESPN’s reporter, they have opted to release Cam Christie. A decision that, barring a late surprise, cements their final roster.
The Christie arrived to the Clippers in the 2024 Draft, where he was chosen 46th overall, and although he barely logged minutes in his first season, he did manage to carve out a small role last year. Although in very small doses, the guard did see action in 55 of the Clippers’ games during the 2025-26 season, and he even managed to put together some decent performances, such as his 17 points against Phoenix in December or the 16 against Toronto in January. But, when push came to shove, they have decided not to count on him any longer.
Which is a decision that perhaps has less to do with on-court contributions and more with the financial side. The four-year contract that Christie signed in 2024 was not guaranteed for this third season, and although the Clippers had been postponing the deadline to make a decision, the moment arrived when it could no longer be delayed: if he wasn’t waived yesterday, his salary would be guaranteed. And the Angels did not hesitate.
Christie will now have to try to find another slot in the league, though with only a few days remaining before the season starts and as teams filter their own rosters, it seems unlikely that someone will rush to sign him. Perhaps he has no choice but to sit out for a year and try his luck again next summer.
