The Denver Nuggets reportedly offered their player Peyton Watson a five-year, $70 million contract, according to The Athletic.
However, the small forward reportedly declined it, aiming to sign the qualifying offer with a view to landing a substantial contract in the 2027 free-agent market.
According to sources close to the situation, Watson is seeking around $28 million per season, which would amount to nearly double what was offered.
Despite his injury issues from last season, he took a step forward as a regular starter for the Nuggets.
In 54 games, he averaged 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 30 minutes per game.
As we mentioned earlier, his situation could be unlocked soon by signing a one-year, $6.5 million deal, that is, the qualifying offer.
A situation similar to Jalen Duren’s in Detroit, who is pursuing the maximum salary with little success.
