The Boston Celtics are lining up a new move, though it won’t be at the forefront. According to journalist Jake Fischer, the Celtics are waiting for Devin Carter to clear waivers before making him an offer and bringing him into their backcourt.
The guard, who was selected by the Sacramento Kings as the 13th pick in the 2024 draft, arrived this summer in Atlanta via a trade; however, the Georgia organization does not have him in its plans and has waived him ahead of the start of preseason.
The possible arrival of Carter to the Massachusetts organization suggests they might frequently employ two ball-handlers in the backcourt. It’s no surprise, since last season Payton Pritchard and Derrick White spent considerable time starting together. Now they would be joined by the aforementioned Carter and Mike Conley.
Regarding the potential contribution of the guard who is 24 years old, last season he appeared in up to 72 games for the Kings, averaging 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 14.8 minutes per contest. It remains to be seen how much of a role Joe Mazzulla will assign him in his rotation.
