Following the recent addition of John Konchar, the Knicks show no signs of slowing their activity. Shams Charania, an ESPN reporter, notes that the reigning champions also intend to sign Drew Eubanks, who would arrive as a free agent and would become the 15th member of Mike Brown’s roster.
However, it remains unclear what type of contract they will offer the center. In fact, Ian Begley of SNY points to the possibility that the former Kings big man might simply sign a preseason deal that would allow him to contest for the last open spot on the roster, which suggests they could bring in more players under this kind of agreement and eventually settle on one when the regular season is about to begin.
The Knicks would be the seventh team in Eubanks’ career, who just completed a year in Sacramento, where he capitalized on injury issues to carve out a role and averaged 5 points and 3 rebounds in the 42 games he played. In fact, after Sabonis sustained an injury at the start of the season, he even started a few games, though he quickly lost the job to a Maxime Raynaud who went on to earn Doug Christie’s trust.
The addition of Andre Drummond has, in principle, left the backup center spot in New York covered, but Eubanks’ arrival could provide a bit more depth at the position to ensure it is covered in case of an injury. However, opting for a preseason contract would show that the champions are still weighing other options.
