Is There Still Room for Ben Simmons in the NBA?

August 10, 2026

Ben Simmons has just spent the 2025-26 season on the shelf. With the aim of rebuilding his body after so many injuries, the point guard chose to take a year off, and now he seems ready to attempt a return to the NBA’s pinnacle. And despite the doubts that have surrounded him in recent years, several NBA franchises could be inclined to give him a chance.

That is what Marc J. Spears, a journalist for Andscape, asserts, saying that there are already a number of teams that have expressed interest and that one has even received an offer to be part of the training camp of one of them. The Australian, however, is currently focused on his national team, with whom he will have his first opportunity to demonstrate his current level and begin testing whether this recovery period has truly been effective.

He, for his part, seems to be weighing it, as he told Spears that he is in the best shape he’s been in years, and one of the coaches who has been helping him train has stated that he has regained his athletic capacity. And while this is a refrain we have heard for many years, one must wonder whether, now, in what appears to be one last chance, the promises that have long fallen short will finally be fulfilled.

Ben Simmons has as his objective to reach his national team to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games, and these sessions seem to be a first step toward that goal. The point guard will participate without restrictions, and will be able to have a first glimpse that tells him whether he is ready to return to the league.
