Within the upheaval experienced about a year and a half ago in the Dallas Mavericks with Luka Dončić’s departure, Jason Kidd ended up being one of the latest casualties. Dismissed in May, Kidd is clear that his coaching career is far from finished. He is currently in the Philippines to take part in an NBA-related fan event. From there, in an interview granted to Rappler, he states that he would be open to future opportunities in the League.
“I would never say ‘no’ to coaching, and it’s clear that it’s something that could happen in the future, but right now I’m at home enjoying my family, as well as watching games and seeing if I can help others,” he remarks, before underscoring the ongoing contact he maintains with players who have been under his tutelage.
“Beyond whether I return to coaching or not, I’m always in touch with Jalen Brunson and Giannis Antetokounmpo. I try to help others now that I’m not coaching,” he explains, making it clear that he remains very connected to what’s happening in the NBA.
Although for now he has not achieved the championship success, Kidd has nonetheless managed to build strong bonds with some of the best players he has coached. During his time in Dallas he reached the Western Conference Finals in 2022 and the NBA Finals in 2024. After two years without playoff appearances, he was dismissed.
