Maxime Raynaud has, all things considered, had a bit of good fortune. The center gave his share of a scare to Kings fans during the preseason matchup against the Warriors, suffering a knee injury that initially looked potentially catastrophic, yet the fear seems to have outweighed the actual impact. After the first assessments of the joint, the club’s mood is one of relief.

According to Michael Scotto, a Hoopshype writer, the Frenchman has sustained a subluxation of the right kneecap, an ailment far milder than initially feared and one for which updates are expected relatively soon. The Kings have confirmed that Raynaud will undergo reevaluation in roughly two weeks, and while that timeframe does not automatically guarantee a return, it does suggest that his layoff may not be as lengthy as feared.
All signs thus indicate that Raynaud could play the significant role he had earned with these Kings after a promising rookie season. Averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, the center demonstrated flashes of his talent, especially as the more veteran bodies were unavailable and he earned extra minutes, establishing himself as a key piece in the franchise’s future. His selection to the second-team rookies was a strong acknowledgment of his work, and this season should continue to grow.
It is possible that, once again relegated to the reserve role behind Domantas Sabonis, the Frenchman might see his numbers dip, but his game should keep evolving to allow him to shine even brighter when the Lithuanian’s departure, seemingly inevitable, takes place. And after fearing a multi-month absence, all indications point to Raynaud being back soon to continue his duties.
