Denver Nuggets have completed the signing of Ryan Nembhard. The Colorado franchise had been widely touted as the leading candidate to secure the guard since his release in Charlotte, and, according to Shams Charania, ESPN’s reporter, the deal is finally sealed. Specifically, the former Mavericks player has signed a two-way contract, which will allow him to appear in up to 50 regular-season games while splitting his time with the Grand Rapids Gold of the G League.

Nembhard became one of the most attractive candidates for a two-way deal the moment it became known that Charlotte did not plan to keep him, following a promising season in Dallas in which he hinted at potential as a depth guard. With averages of 6.6 points and 5.3 assists in 19 minutes and a standout performance of 28 points against, precisely, Denver, he made clear that he possesses the tools to push for a place in the league, and now he will continue pursuing that goal in a more competitive environment.
In a setting where, despite higher ambitions than last year in Dallas, the competition for minutes at the point guard position is not exactly ferocious. Jamal Murray will obviously be the featured starter, but the other guard on the roster is Tyus Jones, who has just come off a couple of relatively underwhelming seasons and does not seem an insurmountable barrier for Ryan. And if he manages to move ahead in the rotation, it would not be surprising if he ends the year with a regular contract.
