Talking about the Sacramento Kings is tricky. It’s not that the analysis is difficult, but it’s hard to see where they’re headed—if they have a defined destination. And in that sense, even with Zach LaVine on the roster, and without any piece to build around, they are now immersed in a peculiar audition to add a veteran guard to the roster, with three names already on the table.
According to Jake Fischer, the California franchise is conducting workouts with several more well-known NBA names; so much so that in the coming days they will hold one with Cameron Payne.
The 32-year-old, and with 11 seasons in the league, played 22 games last season with the Sixers, after a productive 2024-25 campaign with the Knicks. With Philadelphia he averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 17 minutes per night.
Another name to keep in mind is Elfrid Payton. Also 32 years old, he has not participated in the NBA since the 2024-25 season, when he split his year between the Pelicans and the Hornets, averaging 3.5 points in 21.3 minutes with a 32.8 percent field-goal percentage. Last season he spent in the G League.
Finally, Victor Oladipo can’t be ruled out either. The former All-Star has asked for a new chance to prove that he can still compete with the best, as reflected on his social media profiles. During July he took part in a workout day in Las Vegas, with the Kings among the teams present.
