Mission accomplished. Luka Doncic, now the undisputed master of the Los Angeles Lakers, has set out to lead the team so that, in the upcoming season 2026-27, he lays the groundwork for what he hopes will be a glorious era with him at the helm.
Sticking to that objective of growing the project from the locker room, the Slovenian maestro took the entire squad to his homeland, Slovakia? Slovenia, where they have shared far more than workouts with the aim of strengthening bonds and letting the chemistry between everyone take shape. Obviously, the court will dictate the verdict, but the players’ response has been very positive.
“I’d say it was one of those trips that serves to strengthen the team’s spirit even more. It helped us come together and train as a unit outside the United States, and it also gave us a chance to experience a new culture. For Luka to do that proves he’s a genuine leader, and you can tell that this is the role he wants to fulfil this season,” comments Collin Sexton, one of the summer’s signings.
Following in that vein, a veteran seasoned by a thousand battles, such as Kevon Looney, agrees with the guard’s assessment, underscoring Luka’s commitment to chart the path for everyone.
“I’ve been in the league for a while, and this is the first time I’ve done something like this—going to someone’s country, bringing us all together, and spending so much time together. I’d never done it before. That shows his character, shows that he truly wants to win, wants people to know his story, why he is the way he is, and yes, I believe we pulled it off. He’s a great player and a great leader; he likes to show what he can do on the court, and we were able to see his personality off it, so it was fantastic,” he concludes.
