Jalen Duren continues his back-and-forth tug-of-war.
As of September 10, he remains unresolved about his NBA future, and all signs point to him ultimately signing a one-year deal with the qualifying offer, i.e., a salary of $9.6 million, according to Marc Stein.
Duren and his agent are demanding a maximum salary that will never be within reach. The Pistons have stood firm at $35 million per year, and they aren’t moving from there.
The Kings have emerged as a potential destination for the center via a sign & trade, although there are already numerous voices in the NBA advising him not to switch teams, and certainly not to Sacramento.
“A highly informed source close to Duren’s case says he will end up choosing his qualifying offer of $9.6 million with the intention of becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer,” the cited Stein said.
“Undoubtedly it would be a very risky path to take for a player like Duren, and naturally there are many doubts about whether he will ultimately accept this kind of deal… But we will see how all of this unfolds over the coming month,” he explained.
Apparently, Duren and his agent have set September 30 as the deadline to resolve his next contract.
