Steve Kerr has a soft spot for Devin Booker. And in Golden State they would be thrilled to turn that sentiment into something more if the market offered the opportunity.
According to Tim Kawakami, who explained it on the Warriors Plus Minus podcast, the Warriors would be among the first teams to call if Phoenix opened the door to trading its star; and they would be ready to go all out for him. The reporter even suggests three first-round picks as bait for a potential deal, as noted by Peter O’Keefe for Blue Man Hoop.
“I know the Warriors would be first in line saying: ‘We have three first-rounders to offer,’” Kawakami stated.
The bond and mutual admiration between Kerr and Booker were forged and strengthened during the Paris 2024 Olympics. The coach especially valued Booker’s ability to adapt his game to the needs of a star-studded national team, with which they won the gold medal.

A Tremendous Offensive Tandem
Bringing that dynamic to San Francisco would mean pairing Stephen Curry with the best possible partner since the Splash Brothers era, with Klay Thompson by his side; and the twist is that Booker, besides being a threat as a catch-and-shoot option and in the pick-and-roll, is also a ball-handler and a creator. A combination that would allow the offense to share the workload of a two-time MVP who is 38 years old, yet whose body still holds up well enough to approach the Last Dance discussion only in passing. Curry remains an elite player.
For now, this is merely speculation. There are no signs that the Suns have decided to part with him, but with Mark Williams injured and questions surrounding Phoenix’s project (even with the additions of Miles Bridges or Luke Kennard) about whether it is built to compete toe-to-toe with the West’s big guns, perhaps the moment is approaching to consider whether they can craft a winning roster around Booker in the short-to-mid term, or whether it’s more prudent to start thinking about how much they could obtain for a player of his caliber, in order to shorten the timelines of an eventual rebuild.
Booker has this season and the next on his contract, for a total value of approximately $118 million.
