The Denver Nuggets are not in a position to let opportunities slip away, and Cam Whitmore isn’t one to reject any offer that comes his way. The convergence of these two realities has led the wing, selected 20th overall in the 2023 Draft after being projected much higher, to end up with the Colorado franchise on a two-way contract that they will try to convert into a standard deal during the season.
Shams Charania reports that Whitmore has already joined the Nuggets’ fold for the workouts ahead of training camp.
Last year, a shoulder injury kept him off the court with the Wizards. But the reality is that Whitmore had been losing his place in the NBA due to his one-dimensional approach as a player. He possesses great physical tools, but very little real basketball to show for it. After his second season in the league, Houston moved on from him for only a couple of second-round picks.
Now, he arrives at a Nuggets team that is notably lacking in athleticism and wing size, having recently lost Peyton Watson. The hope, if there is any, is that Cam Whitmore can at least replicate that role. Although with two-way players, miracles shouldn’t be expected.
Whitmore has appeared in a total of 119 games in his pro career, averaging 10.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
