Giannis Antetokounmpo Calls Timeout

October 9, 2026

Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to accumulate seasoning with the Miami Heat. The Florida team played their second preseason clash in the early hours, beating the Pelicans 128-118, with the Greek forward finishing the night with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 18 minutes. But despite his efficient production, the former Bucks ace has yet to fully settle into the system of his new club.

He himself acknowledged this in postgame remarks, asking for a bit of time to finish integrating with the Heat and vowing to keep giving his best in the meantime.

«I’m getting more comfortable, but I’m still not at my best yet,» he admitted. «I’ve played around 900 games with the Bucks and only two with the Heat, so I think it will take me a while to be completely comfortable. But I want to be aggressive. I’ve always tried to reach my comfort zones, be aggressive, make the right decision and play hard, and that won’t change regardless of who I’m paired with. I have to keep being myself.»

Nevertheless, the Greek’s level of effectiveness in his early appearances has by no means given the impression of someone who is uncomfortable. Still shaking off the rust, he has already made an immediate impact with his ability to score at solid percentages and to create for teammates, and now it is both his and Spoelstra’s task to create the conditions for those strengths to reach their fullest potential.

If they achieve that, despite any gaps they may have in other departments, these Heat will be a team to fear. Because, even coming off a year marked by numerous absences and limited collective success, Giannis remains a forceful, overwhelming presence on the floor.
