Steve Kerr: We’re Not Even Remotely Close

October 14, 2026

Why lie about it. Something like that must have been what Steve Kerr was thinking in recent hours as he faced the media to make clear that not only does he not see his team as prepared, but that they are even distant from the level they hope to reach. And it is worrying, of course, especially because the ceiling for the Golden State Warriors does not look particularly high either.

«We are not remotely close to where we want to be, but we are working on the right things», he notes, before making clear that, in any case, they should not fall into self-pity, but rather stay together to push the work forward.

«This is the roster we have. So, we could sit here and say: ‘Well, it’s a pity we don’t have this, or pity we don’t have that.’ I believe we have enough to be a really good team, but we have to do it together», he states.

Actually, the state of the San Francisco franchise is basically unchanged from how things stood at the end of last season. Moves in the market have been conspicuously absent, Jimmy Butler remains unavailable to play, and Stephen Curry will be the nightly beacon of hope. They have faith in the recently drafted Yaxel Lendeborg, but he is not expected to bring about a substantial change.
