The Warriors Confirm Worst Case Scenario With Porzingis

October 15, 2026

Kristaps Porzingis’s situation is as complicated as expected. Having skipped the preseason and with his arrival to the Golden State Warriors under constant medical supervision, his first meeting with the franchise has ended with this harsh conclusion: an indefinite sidelining.

In the statement issued by San Francisco, it is emphasized that such an undated absence is due to a private health matter that will prevent him from working with his teammates, although he will remain within the team’s orbit to stay as involved as possible in the day-to-day operations.

Porzingis has also spoken out, sharing via his social networks once again a familiar tale, the one about ‘I have to recover and I’m feeling better’.

«I’m working with doctors and experts to determine how to fully restore my health as soon as possible. Honestly, I’m getting better every day. I just have to be patient; I trust that I’ll soon be back at full strength.»

And he continues… «Undoubtedly, it’s frustrating to deal with health problems that can’t be precisely identified, on top of the injuries I’ve suffered throughout my career. It’s a buildup of factors, but we will overcome it».

Kristaps Porzingis’ Contract

With his status now clear, Porzingis called general manager Mike Dunleavy on the eve of training camp to inform him that he would not be joining the team; that is, he would neither be in Hawaii nor at the first five preseason games.

Such unavailability is surprising after months without playing—the Warriors did not even make the playoffs—and also after awarding him a two-year, $40 million contract in the summer. Obviously, the Californians were counting on having him available, but the reality is that last season he managed to play only 34 games and this year begins with an indefinite absence…
