Dallas Mavericks Fire Dwight Powell

October 20, 2026

Twelve years after his debut with the Mavericks, Dallas have parted ways with Dwight Powell. The center has lost his roster spot to Moussa Cisse, who had been pleasing in the preseason and was drawing interest from several teams.

To that end, the Texas franchise has parted ways with the third-longest-tenured player to have spent uninterrupted time with a single club. Only Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have longer tenures. Powell has played 763 games in Mavericks colors, making him the fifth-most games in the Dallas organization.

Although he continued to log minutes, Powell had already accumulated several years of reduced on-court prominence. His defensive lapses were always an issue, but his athleticism allowed him to post highly efficient seasons as Luka Dončić’s pick-and-roll partner.

Now, at 35 years old and with rosters largely set, it will be difficult for him to land another team.
