The 2023 class is already reaping what it sowed. After Victor Wembanyama opened the door to extensions for players in that draft, more recently the Thompson brothers (Amen and Ausar), as well as Keyonte George, have joined. Who’s next on the list? Brandon Miller.
The No. 2 pick in the 2023 draft is, according to Shams Charania (ESPN), the one slated to witness the next flood of millions. It’s true that the physical problems endured along the way are something to consider, but in no case do they make the Charlotte Hornets doubt the suitability of locking in a long-term commitment with the Alabama-born player.
With October 19 as the deadline for these extensions, the aforementioned journalist claims that conversations between the player and the team have intensified — they have been negotiating since the start of summer — so an agreement should be reached between the parties; that said, he doesn’t provide an approximate date for the deal to be finalized, noting that it could be a matter of days or weeks.
From the North Carolina franchise there are no hints to be found. Jeff Peterson, the Hornets’ chief basketball operations, stated in July that he had spoken with Miller and his representatives about a possible extension, but did not want to go into details beyond confirming what was already known: that they would be thrilled to have him for many years.

Charlotte will bet on what Miller can become after recognizing his immense talent. Despite the several injuries the player has suffered — he is currently recovering from a shoulder surgery performed during the off-season — the front office is clear that if his body cooperates, he could turn into a fantastic player.
Last season he posted averages of 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists, with 38.3 percent from three-point range. Those numbers and a dizzying athleticism make a contract extension seem almost mandatory, even more so after underscoring his star role following LaMelo Ball’s trade.

¿Y de cuántos millones estamos hablando? Pues según apunta Sports Illustrated la extensión de Brandon Miller se moverá en unos 185-200 millones de dólares por cinco años. Suena a cifras lógicas. No llega a los 252 ‘kilos’ de Wembanyama, se acerca a los 208 de Amen Thompson y está bastante por encima del hermano de este (Ausar) y de Keyonte George. Debería cerrarse.
