Cole Anthony already has a destination. Although there had been rumors about him making the leap to Europe, that move ultimately will not take place this summer, as he has sealed his signing with Melbourne United of the Australian league (NBL).
After 355 NBA games, spanning the Orlando Magic and the Milwaukee Bucks, the 26-year-old point guard shifts course, having not found a fit in the American competition, remaining a free agent since July 1.
Arriving in the NBA as a NCAA star, his scoring ability has been the standout across these six seasons, with the best of them the 2021-22 campaign, when he averaged 16.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game.
With his signing confirmed, the point guard has shown his enthusiasm for this new chapter. “I am very excited to begin this adventure with Melbourne United. This is a great opportunity to continue growing as a player and compete for a championship. I am ready to get to work and I am eager to represent the club and meet the fans,” he comments.
Cole Anthony joins a team whose roster already includes Kyle Bowen, Chris Goulding, Shea Ili, Joe Ingles and Fabijan Krslovic. Malith Machar, Josh Oduro, Luke Travers, Sam Waardenburg and Tom Wilson, all under the guidance of the new head coach, Jacob Chance.
“For this final spot, we were looking for an elite point guard with the ability to lead our offense with his scoring ability, who would improve the play of his teammates and who would also be an excellent person off the court. Cole Anthony meets all of those requirements,” Chance states.
