JD Davison will not continue to be a member of the Houston Rockets. Michael Scotto, a journalist with HoopHype, has reported that the Texas franchise has decided to release the guard to create a roster opening, a squad currently made up of 14 players and therefore with room to add a new acquisition.

Davison arrived in Houston last summer after departing the Celtics, and although he initially joined on a two-way contract, it didn’t take long for him to secure a regular spot on the roster. This, however, never translated into substantial playing time, as he appeared in only 28 games and logged fewer than 8 minutes per game, resulting in modest averages of 2.5 points and 1.3 assists.
Nevertheless, the Rockets decided to exercise their team option for the 2026-27 season, but they did so with the understanding that the guard’s salary was not guaranteed and that, if necessary, they could part ways at any moment, as has ultimately happened. He will now need to seek a role with another franchise, perhaps through a preseason contract that would allow him to continue to compete in order to keep his place in the league.
