The Kawhi Leonard trade between the Toronto Raptors and the Los Angeles Clippers remains not official.
With the historic penalty against the Los Angeles franchise yet to be resolved, journalist Brian Windhorst has assured that the operation is not in jeopardy and will eventually be announced.
Kawhi returns to the Raptors in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two first-round picks, and a future draft swap.
“Thus far we have not received any formal demand or reaction from the Clippers. And I have no information indicating that any have occurred. Everything has been quiet on that front,” Windhorst said.
“The trade between the Clippers and Raptors has not yet been finalized. All of this is very interesting… Well, it’s still Monday. We’ll see what happens on Tuesday… After speaking with many people around, this trade is going to happen. There is talk in the NBA that a word given is important. They have agreed to this trade and will carry it out as it was closed,” the journalist highlighted.
It is worth noting that the Clippers have received a historic sanction for secretly paying Kawhi an extra $60 million that did not count toward the salary cap.
Additionally, the player has also been fined $700,000, though he will ultimately be allowed to return to the Canadian franchise, as planned.
