Stephen Curry exudes calm. Confident in who he is and in what he wants, the cornerstone of the Golden State Warriors is not rushing to sign an extension for which he is eligible. At 38 years old he knows his career is drawing to a close, but far from feeling pressure about it he is focused on savoring every moment; and of course, it is much easier when tranquility and pause govern his movements.
In that vein, he spoke to Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area during a charity event at the Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club. There, the four-time champion did not hesitate to affirm that his sole thought is to finish his career with the Warriors.
“There is no doubt I want to be here for the rest of my career and I’m quite sure that’s how it will be,” says the player who last season was the NBA’s top jersey-seller, without hesitation.
While that determination has never been in question, the results of the latest campaigns have raised some alarms. Last season there were 37 wins and the efforts to recruit big stars such as Giannis Antetokounmpo or LeBron James have not borne fruit. In any case, Curry does not shelve his extension out of dissatisfaction, but because he sees it as secondary to preparing for the new season.
“The agreement and the contract will be settled at the right moment. We won’t let it distract from our preparation for the season. The objective remains the same. We’ll talk about the extension when it’s the right time, but I’m ready for my eighteenth season. It’s incredible that so much time has passed. I continue to strive to play at a very high level to help us win and to fulfill my job,” he stresses.

Curry, who will earn approximately $62.6 million in the 2026/27 season, can sign a two-year extension worth up to $136.7 million. That is the limit given that there is a rule that prevents players older than 38 from signing extensions for three or four years.
While that path is the most likely—and the one most listened to—another option is that he opts not to sign, becoming a free agent in 2027, which would allow him to sign for up to three campaigns. In any case, he is in no hurry, since the deadline to seal the aforementioned extension is June 30, 2027.
