Matthew Murrell will again have the opportunity to showcase his abilities in the eyes of the Utah Jazz, the franchise that has re-signed him as a free agent after he spent last season with its G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars.
Although the terms of the deal have not been disclosed, it is most likely that he signed an Exhibit 10 contract. Thus, if he is waived before the start of the 2026-27 season and spends at least 60 days with the Stars this season, he could receive a bonus of up to $91,000 in addition to his salary in the G League.
The Salt Lake City organization has placed its trust in him despite an irregular first season as a professional. In 43 G League games (28 minutes per game), the 24-year-old averaged 10.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals, shooting 38.7 percent from the field and 30.9 percent from three-point range.
Seeing him secure a spot on Utah’s final roster seems unlikely, as all indications point to his presence being driven more by the need for bodies during the preseason than by a long-term objective within the roster led by Will Hardy.
