If there is a market where this is possible, without a doubt it’s this one. Jaylen Brown, LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo… The movement of the NBA’s big stars has been constant, and the latest name to surface is none other than Stephen Curry. And watch out! It isn’t that we want to push him in that direction, but the Golden State Warriors themselves have put in all their effort year after year… with the Boston Celtics already looming on the horizon.
Beyond that surprising 2022 championship, the front office decisions have been more than questionable. To begin with, not using the fantastic picks they had to reinforce the team, but choosing James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga, was a disaster. However, you can’t say the plan was illogical, since precisely through the draft they built the Curry, Thompson, Green dynasty…
That was a stumble, but the more serious issues have arrived more recently. It’s obvious that in the face of competition, elite players like Antetokounmpo or LeBron could slip away — he didn’t hide his desire to play with him —, but harder to justify is that you have Jaylen Brown or Anthony Davis within reach, the latter perhaps with LeBron in the mix, and you walk away of your own accord.
That speaks to you clearly about a Warriors that no longer operate for Curry, but rather in spite of him. From The Athletic they note that Joe Lacob has moved on. Steph remains on the roster and will be there until he wants, but the front office work is centered on the next project and on not risking any future asset. By the way, Georges Niang and Kelly Olynyk are now being mentioned as possible signings.
The Celtics know it’s time with Stephen Curry
Now or never. He’s 37 years old and for some perhaps late, but Stephen Curry’s basketball continues to speak from Olympus. Add to that that, for the first time since he arrived in the NBA, he doesn’t seem to have a clear plan to spend his entire career with one team. San Francisco is his home, but the disappointment is also great and the Celtics seem ready to fish in troubled waters.
According to John Karalis of Sports Illustrated, in Boston they see such a clear possibility of convincing all sides that Brad Stevens, the franchise president, has picked up the phone to propose a deal to the Warriors, one that would include Paul George and at least two first-round picks, in addition to other assets. Arrived at this point, and if such an offer were true, the ball would be in the hands of the two-time NBA MVP.
The truth is that having Curry in Boston would be a blockbuster for the NBA, especially because the Eastern Conference would take on a spectacular color. LeBron in Philadelphia, Giannis in Miami, Haliburton back in Indiana, the Knicks champions with Jalen Brunson… add Steph to the Celtics… what a crazy dream!
