Karl-Anthony Towns has spoken out again about his famous extension.
The center has reiterated his displeasure with the lowball offer he received from the Knicks.
The franchise led by Leon Rose offered him a new contract for five years and $200 million, out of the $277 million that would constitute his maximum salary.
“To be honest, it was a surprise to me,” KAT said about the Knicks’ recent statement.
“To say the least, I was very disappointed. Let’s be honest: this is business, but we have matters to resolve on the court,” he explained.
The Dominican was a key piece of the Knicks’ first championship in 53 years. His averages were 15.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.
Besides Towns’ forthcoming extension, the Knicks will also have to decide the futures of Josh Hart, Miles McBride and Tyler Kolek.
The Knickerbockers hold a team option on Hart’s contract worth $22.37 million.
“I never thought we’d reach this point,” he acknowledged.
“But I think right now the best thing is simply to focus on basketball. Tomorrow should be a fun game,” Towns added.
“Since we won, my only philosophy has been how to win another title. So my focus remains the same: How do we keep the trophy in New York beyond this summer?” he concluded.
