Norman Powell is not afraid to wade into controversy. The wing has participated in a livestream hosted by streamer N3on, in which he was asked what, in his opinion, is the most overrated team in the NBA. And there were many ways to answer without really answering. To say that it’s a difficult concept to define, that everyone has a lot of talent… Anything.
But Powell went straight for the precipice: «I’m going to say the Lakers. There you have it».

Having spent more than three years with the Clippers, it isn’t surprising at all that Powell fires this barb at his former neighbors, who just emerged from a complicated summer. With LeBron James’s departure and a near-complete overhaul of the roster, it’s hard to forecast how these Lakers will operate once the ball is in the air, which makes them a team difficult to measure at this stage. And precisely because of that, it’s also challenging to talk about them as an overrated team.
Moreover, precisely because of all these changes, it seems no one dares to speak of them as a true contender, placing them on the list of teams expected to make the playoffs but not necessarily going far in them. Does Powell think this remains a very high bar for purple and gold? Maybe. Or perhaps, faced with a question that’s almost impossible to answer correctly, he decided to go bother his former rivals.
