Interest in John Konchar continues to grow. While it’s clear he isn’t an NBA star, his ability to work relentlessly on the court hasn’t gone unnoticed in the seven years he has spent in the league; to such an extent that after being waived by the Minnesota Timberwolves there are as many as four Eastern Conference teams interested in signing him.
According to Marc Stein, and adding to the well-known rumor of a potential appearance with the Knicks, the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and Toronto Raptors have now joined the list of teams that have Konchar on their radar to complete their rosters.
During the previous season split between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Utah Jazz, Konchar posted an average of 5.1 points per game, being a regular in the rotation and a versatile asset during his time with the Grizzlies. Additionally, he can space the floor with a career 3-point shooting percentage of 34.9 percent.
While the outlook seems favorable for him to find a new team soon, Konchar faces the issue that the four clubs named above sit above the luxury tax threshold. The Knicks, for example, have only 13 standard contracts, but if they push for a 14th, they appear to be targeting the interior.
In any case, this isn’t a desperate situation for Konchar, since the Timberwolves will pay him the $6.17 million he had under contract (and guaranteed) for the 2026-27 season. Exactly, he can take it easy.
