After a major summer shake-up of the team, marked by LeBron James’ departure and the acquisitions of players such as Walker Kessler and Collin Sexton, the Lakers have now strengthened the front office that Rob Pelinka leads in the role of general manager.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the California-based organization has completed the hiring of Eric Amsler, who until now was the Miami Heat’s vice president of player personnel, to serve as an assistant to Pelinka himself.
For Amsler, this represents a huge change, not so much because his duties will be different, but because he has spent more than 22 years with the Florida franchise. There, starting from the bottom, he rose through the ranks in scouting roles and also carried significant influence with the team’s G League affiliate.
With no pressure of being among the favorites, but with the need to prove they can win with Luka Doncic as the lone superstar on the roster, the Lakers face a 2026-27 season that is truly significant for their present and future.
